<\/strong>Il neige !
La nature se couvre d’un duvet blanc tout doux et tout l\u00e9ger.
Petit d\u00e9jeuner au restaurant du camping.
On poste le premier article de ce voyage sur notre blog et ensuite, on commence notre descente vers les \u00eeles Lofoten<\/strong> sur une route enneig\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather forecast announces two days of snowfall<\/strong>, followed by a sunny day.
Advised by Sevim (our weather experts) we take the first day to finish and post our blog <\/strong>from the cosy common area of the Troms\u00f8 campground while the snow silently adds another fluffy, white layer onto the outside World.\u00a0
The second day we drive through heavy snowfall the roughly 200km to the entrance point of the Lofoten island with the idea to kick-start the sunny day right here.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cet archipel, s\u2019\u00e9tendant sur 150 kilom\u00e8tres, dont les nombreuses \u00eeles sont toutes reli\u00e9es par la route, compte environ 24\u2019000 habitants.
De tous temps, et encore aujourd\u2019hui, l\u2019activit\u00e9 principale a \u00e9t\u00e9 la p\u00eache \u00e0 la morue.
Le tourisme tend \u00e0 prendre de plus en plus d\u2019importance, sp\u00e9cialement durant les mois d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9.
Le cadre de ces \u00eeles leur vaut de figurer r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement dans divers palmar\u00e8s des plus belles \u00eeles du monde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lofoten<\/strong> are a group of small islands just north of the Arctic Circle<\/strong>, more than 3000km north of Switzerland. The little islands have a distinct scenery with dramatic mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, interconnected by\u00a0 bridges, tunnels or ferries. Little villages with colored wooden houses lay nestled between the rugged landscape.\u00a0<\/mark><\/em>
The whole is a spectacular sight and together with the relatively mild climate the Lofoten have become a popular holiday destination. Not only in summer with the Midnight Sun and a large choice of outdoor activities, but also for Northern Light hunting in winter.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong>Le beau temps est revenu et nous en parcourons un\u00a0 peu moins de la moiti\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui et ne nous lassons pas de la succession de paysages spectaculaires.

The snowfall has stopped during the night and we enter the world of the islands early morning with cristal clear sky and untouched white snow<\/strong>. The views are spectacular, all is blue and white and the reflection of the sunshine on the snow lets your heart overflow with joy.\u00a0
We even see several Moses! (No photos though, by the time you pull out the camera they are gone).<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous en profitons jusqu’\u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e du jour, avant de rejoindre le camping de Kabelv\u00e5g<\/strong>, juste apr\u00e8s Svolvaer<\/strong>, la capitale de l’archipel.

The road through the whole archipelago is roughly 150km long. We make about half today.\u00a0<\/mark><\/em>
For the night we find a campground in Kabelv\u00e5g next to Svolvaer, Lofoten\u2019s capital.<\/mark><\/em>

Dimanche 13 f\u00e9vrier
<\/strong>Ce matin, nous effectuons une sortie raquette directement depuis notre camping.
A travers les paysages enneig\u00e9s, notre randonn\u00e9e nous m\u00e8ne vers un chalet du club alpin local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No driving for the next day but a snowshoe hike <\/strong>up the mountains to a hut of the local ski club.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est encore t\u00f4t et nous sommes les premiers clients.
Gentiment accueillis par les gardiens du week-end dans un int\u00e9rieur chaleureux, la meilleure place est vite occup\u00e9e par Michel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En nous enqu\u00e9rant de la possibilit\u00e9 de grignoter quelque chose, la sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 culinaire du chalet, les gaufres croustillantes avec fromage brun et confiture, nous est propos\u00e9e.

The couple on duty prepares us coffee with the Norwegian vaffelkake, waffles served with strawberry jam and cheese. Very yummy!<\/mark><\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lundi 14 f\u00e9vrier
<\/strong>Nous profitons de cette matin\u00e9e ensoleill\u00e9e pour slalomer entre les fjords tout en nous rapprochant de Moskenes<\/strong>, \u00e0 la pointe de l\u2019archipel.
Un petit crochet par Hennigsv\u00e6r<\/strong>, charmant petit village de 444 habitants ayant tous un rapport avec la p\u00eache ou le tourisme.
Avant d’atteindre le village, sur une petite \u00eele pointant sur notre gauche, nous apercevons une p\u00eacherie.
Un enchev\u00eatrement de bouts de bois attire notre attention et, en nous approchant, nous d\u00e9couvrons une installation de s\u00e9chage de morues en plein air sur fond de montagne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We get a closer look at one of the thousands of fish drying racks <\/strong>scattered across the islands<\/mark>.<\/em>
Winter temperatures are extremely mild here due to the temperate North Atlantic Current, creating one of the worlds largest positive temperature anomaly relative to its latitude.<\/mark><\/mark><\/em>
With this <\/em><\/mark>f<\/mark><\/em><\/mark>ishing is possible all year round and the population has always made their living from it.\u00a0<\/mark><\/mark><\/em>
The main fish product is \u00ab\u00a0stockfish\u00a0\u00bb (dried cod)<\/strong>. The conditions in the archipelago are perfect for naturally drying fish of very high quality.\u00a0<\/em><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque nous arrivons au village, le ciel s’est soudain obscurci, laissant tomber quelques l\u00e9gers flocons, nous dissuadant de nous balader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today we have a mixture of sun and snow. People here say: “if you don\u2019t like the weather, wait 10 minutes”<\/strong> \ud83d\ude42<\/mark><\/mark><\/em>
Unfortunately right when we get to the charming Henningsvaer<\/strong> village <\/mark><\/mark>it starts snowing and the clouds are very low<\/mark><\/mark><\/em>.<\/mark><\/mark><\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous optons plut\u00f4t pour la version bien au chaud, dans le caf\u00e9 du port.
Poursuivant notre route, encore et encore nous sommes \u00e9merveill\u00e9s par les paysages qu\u2019offre cet archipel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mardi 15 f\u00e9vrier
<\/strong>Le ciel est bleu et la journ\u00e9e s\u2019annonce magnifique.
Nous en profitons pour visiter des petits villages de p\u00eacheurs qui se nichent au fond des fjords.
Ballstad<\/strong> nous a \u00e9t\u00e9 recommand\u00e9 pour son joli port….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…… et ses ravissantes maisons de p\u00eacheurs au bord de l\u2019eau ou d\u2019architecture plus conventionnelle de l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est \u00e0 Nusfjord<\/strong> que nous nous rendons ensuite afin d\u2019y d\u00e9couvrir le charme de son petit port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the very end of one of the islands extensions nestles Nusfjord<\/strong> with its little harbor tucked away behind protective cliffs.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le hasard conduit nos pas vers une maison jaune, qui semble \u00eatre une boutique doubl\u00e9e d\u2019un caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We warm up with a coffee and home made cake,<\/strong> named “best cake of the world”, and yes! it is delicious and yes! I have the recipe. \ud83d\ude42<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019envie de nous r\u00e9chauffer nous fait gravir l\u2019escalier et confirmation nous est donn\u00e9e qu\u2019il est tout \u00e0 fait possible d\u2019y prendre un caf\u00e9 que l\u2019on peut m\u00eame accompagner de la sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 r\u00e9gionale, une gaufre, cr\u00e8me, confiture, faite minute.
Le mobilier, une vielle t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, les articles pos\u00e9s sur les \u00e9tag\u00e8res nous donnent le sentiment de retourner dans les ann\u00e9es 50 lorsque nous p\u00e9n\u00e9trons dans le coin caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The place is an old fishing barn transformed into a retro style shop and restaurant<\/strong>. Very cosy!\u00a0
This is just another example of the talent the nordic people have for interior decoration.
We sit in truly old furniture from the 50s <\/strong>and the television next to us reminds me the one I have seen at my grand parents when I was a child. Excellent!<\/em><\/mark> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le soleil dardant ses derniers rayons, nimbant les paysage de couleur dor\u00e9e, nous arrivons \u00e0 Moskenes<\/strong>, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evening we arrive at Moskenes<\/strong> from where we will take the ferry back to the mainland tomorrow early morning.\u00a0<\/mark><\/em>
We already make plans how to come back here in summer \ud83d\ude42<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quelques minutes de route encore pour trouver un parking id\u00e9alement situ\u00e9 en bord de mer pour y passer la nuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercredi 16 f\u00e9vrier
<\/strong>Il est 06h30 lorsque le ferry accoste \u00e0 Moskenes<\/strong>.
Le temps d\u2019embarquer et d\u00e9j\u00e0 c\u2019est le d\u00e9part pour rejoindre la c\u00f4te ouest norv\u00e9gienne, \u00e0 la hauteur de Bod\u00f8<\/strong>.
C\u2019est le moment de quitter ces territoires bor\u00e9aux et d\u2019entamer notre retour vers la maison.
Nous parcourons une cinquantaine de kilom\u00e8tres et soudain, un panneau lumineux indique\u00a0 que la route vers le sud est ferm\u00e9e pour cause d\u2019enneigement excessif et que seule la route passant par la Su\u00e8de<\/strong> est accessible.
C\u2019est par cons\u00e9quent par le pays voisin que nous continuons notre progression vers le sud.
L\u00e0 aussi il a beaucoup neig\u00e9 et il neige encore.
C’est sur un tapis blanc, se distinguant \u00e0 peine du reste du paysage que nous \u00e9voluons.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Bod\u00f8 where we arrive with the ferry we start our long road back home<\/strong>. Soon we deviate across the mountains to Sweden. Strong wind and snow block the road across the mountain passes in Norway. Sweden is flatter and the better options for us.<\/mark><\/em>
The roads are less winding here but with all the snow it is hard to see where the road is. Good we have by now a lot of practice on how to drive the Azala\u00ef in these conditions.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

La temp\u00e9rature ext\u00e9rieure est largement en dessous de z\u00e9ro, ce qui n’emp\u00eache pas de courageux motards de s’adonner \u00e0 leur passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And why not with a motorbike. With side car it is certainly better than only 2 wheels, but what about the cold?!\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est dans la localit\u00e9 d\u2019Arjeplog<\/strong> qu’un camping se pr\u00e9sente, juste au bon moment, pour nous accueillir pour la nuit<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeudi 17 f\u00e9vrier.
<\/strong>Ce matin, le thermom\u00e8tre affiche \u20149\u00b0C.
On commence la journ\u00e9e par d\u00e9gager l\u2019Azala\u00ef<\/strong> de la neige tomb\u00e9e durant la nuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next morning -9\u00b0C<\/strong>. We start with clearing the Azala\u00ef from powder snow.\u00a0
Slowly but surely I have enough from camping in the freezer<\/strong>. Michel is still enthusiastic and doesn\u2019t mind at all.
In the internet, I find an article that explains why women suffer more from cold than men. There you go!<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

La route serpente entre for\u00eats et lac gel\u00e9s, se confondant facilement avec le paysage environnant.
La conduite demande une bonne dose de concentration pour rester sur le droit chemin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The road leads us back into the mountains<\/strong> (due to a navigation error) and the driving becomes more challenging. Never mind, we use the 4×4<\/strong>. There is hardly any traffic and we even enjoy driving on the mix of ice and snow<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’application “Park for Night”<\/strong> nous aide \u00e0 trouver un endroit en p\u00e9riph\u00e9rie de la ville d\u2019\u00d5stersund<\/strong> pour passer la nuit.

Vendredi 18 f\u00e9vrier<\/strong>
Nous continuons notre route vers le Sud, passons la fronti\u00e8re de la Norv\u00e8ge et nous arr\u00eatons sur un grand parking de d\u00e9part de ski de fond pour y passer la nuit.

Samedi 19 f\u00e9vrier.<\/strong>
C’est un ciel exempt du moindre nuage qui s’ouvre devant nous lorsque nous sortons de l’Azala\u00ef.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malgr\u00e9 une temp\u00e9rature glaciale (-11\u00b0C) nous d\u00e9cidons de nous d\u00e9gourdir les jambes en longeant la piste de ski de fond partant du parking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One more night in the wild at -11\u00b0C<\/strong><\/mark><\/em>. But we wake-up with sunshine! <\/em><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le froid a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 les cristaux tel un merveilleux artiste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the cristal clear morning we go for a walk. We are in awe of mother natures beauty.<\/strong><\/em><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est en milieu d’apr\u00e8s-midi que nous arrivons \u00e0 Oslo<\/strong>.
Un petit passage par le centre ville avant de rejoindre nos amis Helge<\/strong> et Ingebj\u00f8rg<\/strong> \u00e0 Mj\u00f8ndalen<\/strong>.
Comme \u00e0 l’aller, on va y rester 2 nuits afin de visiter un peu la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evening we arrive in Mj\u00f8ndalen-Drammen<\/strong>, next to Oslo at our friends place<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dimanche 20 f\u00e9vrier.<\/strong>
La m\u00e9t\u00e9o annonce un beau d\u00e9but de journ\u00e9e avec d\u00e9gradation dans l’apr\u00e8s-midi.
Nos amis nous proposent de profiter de cette opportunit\u00e9 pour visiter la ville et ses environs.
Nous commen\u00e7ons par monter sur la colline toute proche en empruntant le tunnel nomm\u00e9 “Spirale<\/strong>“.
L’histoire veut qu’en 1953, la ville de Drammen a eu besoin de terre pour construire une presqu’ile sur la rivi\u00e8re, afin de r\u00e9ceptionner des voitures d’importation venant par la mer.
Plut\u00f4t que de creuser un grand trou \u00e0 ciel ouvert, ils d\u00e9cid\u00e8rent de creuser un tunnel sur toute la hauteur de la colline.
Ce tunnel de 6 spirales concentriques, d’une longueur de 1,6km, est ainsi devenu une attraction tr\u00e8s appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e par les touristes de passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with Helge and Ingebj\u00f8rg we visit Drammen<\/strong>. <\/em><\/mark>
We start with an interesting curiosity, the Spiral.<\/strong><\/em><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spiral is a 1.6 km long <\/i>tunnel in the shape of a helix<\/strong>, with six rising circles, in the same style as a multi-storey parking lot but carved into a mountain. Witch each rotation the helix rises 22m at a diameter of 70m. At the top there is a view point, parking facilities and a cafe. The use of the Spiral is purely touristic.\u00a0
Its construction dates back to the 50s, when the city engineer proposed the idea of tunneling for gravel. The local quarry had started to disfigure the landscape and an alternative solution was needed.<\/i><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Du haut de la colline, la vue s’\u00e9tend sur toute la ville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous redescendons \u00e0 pied et visitons ensuite le centre-ville.
En longeant la rivi\u00e8re, notre regard est attir\u00e9 par un ponton sur lequel un cabanon dont la chemin\u00e9e laisse \u00e9chapper de la fum\u00e9e.
Soudain, la porte s’ouvre et 3 dames en costume de bain en sortent, et tout de suite se plongent dans la rivi\u00e8re.
Un sauna au milieu de la ville !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We walk back down and continue our visit along the river where we spot a floating sauna<\/strong> in the middle of the town. Nobody (but us) is surprised when 3 girls in bikini open the door and plunge straight into the ice cold river<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous poursuivons notre balade en admirant les b\u00e2timents de la rive oppos\u00e9e se miroiter dans la rivi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous profitons du reflet d’une sculpture sph\u00e9rique appel\u00e9e “Harpe de rivi\u00e8re” pour immortaliser un autoportrait de notre petit groupe.
Les sons issus du bruit du courant sont repris par la sph\u00e8re et \u00e9mis sous la forme d’une douce m\u00e9lodie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further down the attractive river bank there is the River Harp, <\/strong>a sound sculpture <\/strong>that creates river music through variations in water flow and bridge oscillations. <\/mark>Very cool!<\/mark><\/mark><\/em>
It is also said to appease Nokken, the water spirit that has the bad habit to enchant young women and draw them into the water.<\/mark><\/em>
Unfortunately it is silent when we pass.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lundi 21 f\u00e9vrier.<\/strong>
Nous quittons nos amis de bon matin pour rejoindre Larvik.
C’est de le l\u00e0 que nous allons prendre le ferry qui va nous amener \u00e0 Hirtshals, \u00e0 la pointe nord du Danemark.
Comme nous avons un peu de temps, nous en profitons pour passer une partie de la journ\u00e9e dans les bains de la ville.
Il est 21h30 lorsque nous d\u00e9barquons du ferry et trouvons un endroit tranquille pour passer la nuit sur un parking en p\u00e9riph\u00e9rie de la ville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is time for us to leave Norway<\/strong>. While we wait for the afternoon ferry in Larvik we spend half a day at the local SPA that sits right at the beach<\/strong>.
Here after a one hour long sauna ritual it is our turn to dive into the 3\u00b0C cold see!!!<\/strong> Including head under water just as the Lithuanian animator tells us.\u00a0
So this is done!<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mardi 22 f\u00e9vrier.<\/strong>
On roule, on roule pour finalement arriver \u00e0 Hildesheim<\/strong>, jolie ville de 100’000 habitants.
Bien que d\u00e9truit \u00e0 40\u00a0% pendant la <\/a>seconde guerre mondiale, le centre historique, reconstruit ensuite, a conserv\u00e9 beaucoup de son ancien charme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in Denmark we spend the night on a quiet parking lot.
From there we spend two days on the motorway direction south, with a stopover at Hildesheim<\/strong> where we discover a lovely medieval town centre<\/strong>.<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercredi 23 f\u00e9vrier.<\/strong>
220 kilom\u00e8tres nous s\u00e9parent encore de Nuremberg<\/strong>.
Nous y arrivons en milieu d’apr\u00e8s-midi et allons y rester quelques jours, permettant ainsi \u00e0 Sylke de visiter sa maman qui se trouve dans un home pour personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dimanche 27 f\u00e9vrier<\/strong>
Retour au bercail !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the very end of February we are finally back in Montagny <\/strong>where the first spring flowers show their colors.
I love coming home at this time of the year!
And Michel, already impatient for our trip to Morocco in April<\/strong>, immediately starts to prepare the Azala\u00ef for warmer climate…<\/mark><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
