Cette ann\u00e9e,<\/u> de mai \u00e0 octobre, nous allons visiter la partie est de la Scandinavie.
\nApr\u00e8s un passage \u00e0 travers l\u2019Allemagne, visite de la famille de Sylke et quelques amis, nous ferons un arr\u00eat sur l\u2019\u00eele danoise de Bornholm avant de rejoindre la Su\u00e8de, puis la Finlande.
\nUn passage \u00e0 St-P\u00e9tersbourg ensuite, avant de redescendre vers le sud \u00e0 travers les trois pays baltes, Estonie, Lettonie et Lituanie.
\nCe sera ensuite le tour de la Pologne et nous finirons probablement par l\u2019Autriche avant de revenir \u00e0 la maison fin octobre.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mid May 2017 and we are on the road again!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This yeas trip will be the eastern part of our Baltic sea round tour.
\n<\/span>After last years trip through Danmark, Norway and\u00a0Iceland, w<\/span>e are so looking forward to get to know more of Denmark and then Sweden, Finland, St. Petersburg, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and maybe a few more eastern Europe countries and Austria on our way back to CH in October. J J J<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In this first article we will slowly go up from CH\u00a0to Sweden in a more or less straight line. We will stop over at the Bodensee, visit\u00a0our family and Friends on the way\u00a0in various areas of Germany and then cross over to Bornholm, a Danish Island that las in the Baltic sea between Germany\u00a0and Sweden, were we will also visit friends J (the more we travel the more friends we have to visit abroad J)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nous quittons notre domicile un peu avant 14 heures, apr\u00e8s avoir fait nos adieux \u00e0 nos voisins directs.<\/p>\n

Nous prenons la direction de Schaffhouse car nous avons envie, durant ces premiers jours, de visiter les rivages allemands du lac Inf\u00e9rieur<\/strong> ainsi que du lac de Constance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, Lake Konstanz welcomes us with a wonderful summer atmosphere. Plenty of Lovely green areas right at the lake, charming villages and beer gardens convince us to stay for 3 days and we regret that we cannot stay longer. We both love Lake Geneva and Lake de Neuch\u00e2tel, but this\u00a0one is even better with much more public access\u00a0to the lake, plenty of beer gardens and a great cycling track right around the lake.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Notre premier bivouac aura pour lieu un magnifique parc au port de Wangen<\/strong>, petite bourgade lacustre allemande pleine de charme.<\/p>\n

Notre prochaine halte sera pour la ville de Radolfzell <\/strong>que nous parcourons \u00e0 pied tout en privil\u00e9giant le bord du lac et ses \u00ab\u00a0Biergarten<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb qui nous tendent les bras et nous invitent \u00e0 y d\u00e9guster une fra\u00eeche bi\u00e8re blanche<\/strong> et un bon bretzel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nous continuons de suivre la rive du Lac Inf\u00e9rieur et arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 son extr\u00e9mit\u00e9, nous nous rendons sur la Presqu\u2019\u00eele de Reichenau. <\/strong>L\u2019endroit est connu pour son agriculture qui gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un climat particulier permet de faire 4 r\u00e9coltes par an. La m\u00e9t\u00e9o est id\u00e9ale pour faire un demi-tour de l\u2019\u00eele \u00e0 pied et d\u00e9couvrir cet endroit privil\u00e9gi\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Nous mettons maintenant le cap sur Nuremberg,<\/strong> o\u00f9 nous allons passer les prochains 7 jours \u00e0 visiter les diff\u00e9rents membres de la famille de Sylke.<\/p>\n

Next stop is in Bavaria with my family in Neuburg, N\u00fcrnberg and Erlangen. Happy getting togethers mostly outside with hikes and beer gardens, thanks to the great weather!

\n<\/strong>La journ\u00e9e commence par la visite de Bayreuth.
\n<\/strong>C’est la journ\u00e9e des p\u00e8res<\/strong> et ce jour l\u00e0 il est difficile\u00a0d’en rencontrer un\u00a0sans sa bi\u00e8re \u00e0 la main.<\/p>\n

Thursday May 25.<\/strong>
\nA little further nort-east of N\u00fcrnberg we stop in Bayreuth and Kulmbach.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ascension (Pfingsten) is also father\u2019s day in Germany. So fathers meet up for a hike or a pub stole. Those that go for a hike make sure they have enough beer with them (watch the little trolley!). Definitely not the same thing as mother\u2019s day J<\/span><\/p>\n

Cette courte visite termin\u00e9e, nous allons retrouver Andrea et Simon<\/strong> \u00e0 la brasserie de Kulmbach<\/strong>.
\nSimon,\u00a0<\/strong>directeur technique de la brasserie\u00a0nous fait visiter les lieux avec force explications des diff\u00e9rents stades de la production de bi\u00e8re.
\nNous passons le reste de la journ\u00e9e chez eux et Simon<\/strong> nous pr\u00e9pare de succulentes grillades pour le repas du soir. Nous veillons assez tard \u00e0 papoter et sommes invit\u00e9s \u00e0 passer la nuit chez eux.<\/p>\n

Simon and Andrea welcome us in the brewery Kulmbacher, where Simon is technical director and we follow a detailed explanation of the brewing process (you may remember that we had a tour of the bottling and packaging area last year). Followed by excellent beer and BBQ in their garden.

Nous roulons jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Dessau<\/strong>.
\nCette ancienne cit\u00e9 de l\u2019Allemagne de l\u2019est comptant 90’000 habitants, situ\u00e9e \u00e0 la confluence des rivi\u00e8res Mulde et Elbe<\/strong> \u00e9t\u00e9 presque totalement d\u00e9truite durant la seconde guerre mondiale car elle abritait une usine de production d\u2019armes de la Luftwaffe.
\n<\/strong> Reconstruite sous le r\u00e9gime communiste de la RDA elle devient un centre industriel important. Apr\u00e8s la r\u00e9unification allemande, la plupart des monuments historiques furent reconstruits.
\nLe centre-ville pi\u00e9tonnier est tr\u00e8s bien mis en valeur et la place du march\u00e9 est parsem\u00e9e de si\u00e8ges souples et hamacs permettant au chaland de se vautrer pour faire la lecture ou \u00e9couter les artistes musiciens se produisant sur la sc\u00e8ne de la place.<\/p>\n

We continue further north until Dessau<\/strong> at the river Elbe in the Bundesland Sachsen-Anhalt<\/strong>. The city was almost completely destroyed during WW ll since a factory for weapons was situated here. Today this city has 90’000 inhabitants. The town centre is well restored and we enjoy a sunny afternoon at the Central place.<\/span>

Apr\u00e8s y avoir pass\u00e9 l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi, nous sortons de la ville et longeons l\u2019Elbe<\/strong>, au bord de laquelle nous trouvons un champ \u00e0 l\u2019abri des regards pour passer une nuit tranquille et avons la bonne surprise de voir une cigogne venir nous faire une petite visite.<\/p>\n

We spend the night close to the Elbe with lots of songbirds and in the morning even a stork!

Samedi 27 mai<\/strong> R\u00e9veill\u00e9 par le chant des oiseaux et le cri rauque des faisans d\u00e8s l\u2019aurore, nous d\u00e9jeunons au soleil.
\nC\u2019est la r\u00e9gion des mille lacs du Mecklembourg<\/strong> que nous \u00e9lisons comme but de la journ\u00e9e. Nous parcourons les 200 km en direction du nord et toujours dans l\u2019ex Allemagne de l\u2019est en un peu moins de 3 heures et faisons notre premi\u00e8re halte dans la cit\u00e9 de R\u00f6bel\/M\u00fcritz<\/strong> au bord du lac \u00e9ponyme. Nous sommes \u00e9tonn\u00e9s de voir la qualit\u00e9 de r\u00e9novation de l\u2019ensemble des maisons de la ville et ne pouvons qu\u2019admirer la beaut\u00e9 de celle-ci.<\/p>\n

Saturday May 27.<\/strong>
\nAs recommended by Simon and Andrea, our next destination is the lake district<\/strong> in the Bundesland Mecklenburg Vorpommern<\/strong> roughly 200km further north.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are totally charmed by the many small, super well restored medieval villages and the many lakes with lovely little harbors. It is a perfect area for walking and biking and we would love to come back one day to see more of the uncountable smaller and bigger lakes.
\n<\/span>
\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Pour la deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9tape de la journ\u00e9e, nous parcourons quelques kilom\u00e8tres pour nous rendre \u00e0 Malchow<\/strong>, au bord du lac \u00ab\u00a0Fleesensee<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb.
\nLa journ\u00e9e est belle et chaude et nous en profitons pour prendre un bain dans une eau \u00e0 19\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

The weather is still super sunny and in Malchow<\/strong> at the lake Fleesensee<\/strong> we even go for a swim! (not to mention the daily ice cream 😊).<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Aujourd\u2019hui, nous rejoignons la ville de Barth<\/strong>, au bord de la mer Baltique<\/strong> en Pom\u00e9ranie occidentale.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sunday May 28.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>With our next destination we already reach the Baltic coast<\/strong>.
\n<\/span> Barth<\/strong> is a lovely little town where Nany <\/strong>and J\u00f6rg<\/strong>, close friends from Sylke’s family live. We spend a lovely afternoon and next morning together and leave with a big pack of Nanie’s home made potato herring salad. Yummy!
\n<\/span>

C’est l\u00e0 que nous visitons Nany et J\u00f6rg<\/strong>, des amis de la maman de Sylke<\/strong> o\u00f9 nous sommes invit\u00e9s pour le caf\u00e9 et aussi pour le petit-d\u00e9jeuner du lendemain.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>De Barth <\/strong>nous nous rendons \u00e0 Stralsund<\/strong>, \u00e9galement pour une visite de la ville…..<\/p>\n

Monday May 29.<\/strong>
\nOnly a little further east\u00a0lays Stralsund.
\n<\/strong>Stralsund was founded in 1234and was one of the most prospering members of the medieval Hanseatic\u00a0League. Since 2002, it’s old town with its rich heritage is a UNESCO world Hertitage.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We are again warmly welcomed. This time by Sylke’s family members Marlis, Doris<\/strong> and Christian.<\/strong> We have plenty of things to exchange and discuss during a pleasant afternoon with delicious cake and even Champlain 😊. Christian then guides us to their jot club where we visit their great sailing boat and then spend the night in our Azala\u00ef with view on the marina.<\/span>

Mardi 30 mai
\n<\/strong> De Stralsund<\/strong>, nous nous rendons sur l\u2019\u00eele de R\u00fcgen<\/strong> et passons un moment dans la ville de Bergen<\/strong>.
\nSa mairie pr\u00e9sentant 2 architectures distinctes attire l\u2019attention.<\/p>\n

The next day, loaded with recommendations of what to visit, we cross over the bridge to the island of R\u00fcgen.
\n<\/strong>R\u00fcgen is Germany’s largest island (51km long, 43km wide). It\u00a0is very popular as a tourist destination because of its resort architecture, the diverse landscape and its long sandy beaches.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We start our visit with the central city of Bergen<\/strong> where the town hall stands out with its two distinct architectural styles.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

We also climb up the 30m high Rugard tower that was build on the highest point of the island (stunning 91m). We enjoy the view of almost the whole island.

Mercredi 31 mai
\n<\/strong>Visite de Prora<\/strong> et ses environs. Nous commen\u00e7ons par\u00a0 un centre nature au sein duquel a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit un sentier en bois s\u2019\u00e9levant \u00e0 17 m\u00e8tres au-dessus du sol, parcourant la cime des arbres sur un parcours de 1250 m\u00e8tres. Le point d\u2019attraction en est une tour spirale de 40 m\u00e8tres de hauteur, \u00e9difi\u00e9e autour d\u2019un h\u00eatre vieux de 80 ans et haut de 27 m\u00e8tres.<\/p>\n

From there we go to Binz<\/strong> which is the most popular place on the island with a long promenade along the east coast of R\u00fcgen with plenty of beautiful posh white hotels from the early 19hundreds and a long Wooden pier. Unfortunately we have no picture 🙁.
\nA bit further lays Prona<\/strong> with two unusual attractions: the Treetop Nature Track<\/strong> and the KDF<\/strong> complex a megalomaniac holiday Centre from the Nazis.
\n<\/span>The first one is a 1.2 km long wooden track that winds at 17m height through the forest and culminates in a 40m high spiral tower far above the trees. We went up on a really windy day!<\/span>
\n<\/span>

\n\"\"
\n<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

C\u2019est ensuite au tour du complexe \u00ab\u00a0KdF<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb (K<\/strong>raft d<\/strong>uch F<\/strong>reude) (La joie am\u00e8ne la force) que nous m\u00e8nent nos pas.
\nEnorme complexe de vacances long de 5 km dont la construction a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en 1935,<\/strong> suite \u00e0 une d\u00e9cision des dirigeants de l\u2019Allemagne nazie.
\nL\u2019id\u00e9e \u00e9tait de permettre \u00e0 simultan\u00e9ment 20’000 personnes<\/strong> de profiter d\u2019un s\u00e9jour baln\u00e9aire pour une dur\u00e9e de 2 semaines et ainsi se refaire un moral pour mieux affronter ensuite les difficult\u00e9s de la crise.
\nLes travaux se sont arr\u00eat\u00e9s en 1939<\/strong> et la structure n\u2019a jamais profit\u00e9 au peuple.
\nAujourd\u2019hui, 5 blocs de 500 m\u00e8tres de long ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9nov\u00e9s et transform\u00e9s en appartements de luxe et vendus souvent comme r\u00e9sidences secondaires.<\/p>\n

KDF<\/strong> stands for Kraft Durch Freude = Force Through Joy<\/strong>. The idea was to provide a holiday Centre for the German working class which through the holidays should recover force and then could work harder for the country. Somewhat an early concept of work life balance?\u00a0<\/span>
\n Typical to the Nazi megalomania the centre was planned for 20’000 people. Picture 7.5 km of 5 level building blocks along the beach! Construction started in 1935 but was never completed.<\/span>
\n After war the finished blocks were used first for the army, then part of the unfinished buildings were dismantled and the rest was left to itself since destruction was too expensive. Only recently an effort was started to revive the remaining 2.5 km of buildings (5 blocks of each 500m).<\/span>
\n Several blocks have now already been turned into partly luxury holiday homes and one block was turned into a youth hostel.<\/span>
\nOverall still an impressive historical monument!<\/span>
\n<\/span>

Jeudi 1er<\/sup> juin
\n<\/strong> Avant d\u2019aller prendre le ferry pour Bornholm<\/strong>, nous visitons le festival des ch\u00e2teaux de sable \u00e0 Binz.<\/strong>
\nDes artistes principalement des pays de l\u2019est ont fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 selon le th\u00e8me de la musique une vingtaine de figures taill\u00e9es dans un sable compact\u00e9 import\u00e9 de Hollande<\/strong>.
\nPour que ces \u0153uvres perdurent sans s\u2019affaisser, il est n\u00e9cessaire d\u2019avoir un sable de structure triangulaire qui, pour cette partie de l\u2019Europe, se trouve seulement dans ce pays.<\/p>\n

Thursday June 1st.
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/span>\u00a0Before taking the ferry to the Danish island Bornholm, we visit a “Sandcastle” festival<\/strong>. Mainly eastern and northern European artists have cut sculptures into compacted sand. To make them sustain a “virgin”, square sand (not yet rounded by the movement in water) is needed. The sand used here was all imported from Holland. It is compacted through shaking while wet. There is nothing else added and the artist seem to carve it easily.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>\u00a0 \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

A l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur, un \u00e9norme ch\u00e2teau est en construction avec pour objectif d\u2019atteindre la hauteur de 16 m\u00e8tres<\/strong> et ainsi battre le record de hauteur inscrit dans le Guinness book qui est actuellement de 14,5 m\u00e8tres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The centre piece is a 16m high sandcastle<\/strong> which was still under production when we visited. The aim is to beat the curent Guinness book record of 14.5m.<\/span>

Il est temps maintenant de nous rendre \u00e0 Sassnitz<\/strong>, au terminal des Ferrys pour effectuer la travers\u00e9e vers l\u2019\u00eele danoise de Bornholm<\/strong> qui n\u00e9cessite 4 heures de navigation.
\nNous passons \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 d\u2019un site d\u2019assemblage d\u2019\u00e9oliennes dont les dimensions, vues ainsi de pr\u00e8s, impressionnent
\nLes pales dont le diam\u00e8tre \u00e0 l\u2019emplanture atteint 2,50m seront fix\u00e9es par 80 vis,\u00a0Elles atteignent\u00a0une longueur de 60 m\u00e8tres.<\/p>\n

An hour later on the way to the ferry we see an assembly place for enormous windmills.<\/strong> Each wing has a base diameter of 2.5m<\/strong> and a length of 60m<\/strong> and will be placed into a new offshore park next to R\u00fcgen. We calculated a resulting speed of roughly 300km\/h<\/strong> for the wing tips.
\nTo enable its commitment to shut down all nuclear power stations Germany is heavily investing in wind and solar energy technology. Today about13% of Germany’s energy comes from wind energy\u00a0with roughly 130’000 installed windmills. (Note: Denmark produces already 98% of their energy by windmills for a population\u00a0of 5.7mio. Germany has 80mio people…).<\/span><\/p>\n

In an exhibition we read that birds and bats are killed fairly regularly hit by the high speed rotating wings<\/span> or through the created pressure change which can severely damage their lungs. It’ll be interesting to see how scientists will solve this new issue!<\/span>

BORNHOLM<\/strong>
\nest une \u00eele<\/a> du Danemark<\/strong> situ\u00e9e dans la mer Baltique\u00a0<\/strong>\u00e0 36 km<\/abbr><\/span> au sud-est de la province su\u00e9doise de Scanie\u00a0et \u00e0 150 km<\/abbr><\/span> \u00e0 l’est des premi\u00e8res c\u00f4tes danoises. D’une superficie de 589\u00a0km2, soit un peu moins qu’un cinqui\u00e8me de\u00a0celle du canton de\u00a0Vaud.
\n<\/span>Elle est \u00a0peupl\u00e9e par environ 40\u00a0000 habitants,<\/p>\n

Arrival at Bornholm<\/strong> island which is said to be the most sunny place in Danemark 😊.
\nBornholm lays in the Baltic sea\u00a0only 36km south of\u00a0Sweden. It has roughly 40’000 inhabitants and is very popular for holidays mainly for Germans, Swedish and Polish people. The island is the only non sandy location in Denmark. Its Granit cliffs are therefore remarkable and its quarries build an important resource for the country. The fishing industry played an important roll for Bornholm’s economy over the last two centuries but is nowadays in big parts replaced by tourism.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

D\u00e8s notre arriv\u00e9e, nous nous rendons chez nos amis Niels et Annett<\/strong> que nous avions rencontr\u00e9s en Antarctique en 2014<\/strong>.
\nC’est avec une bonne bi\u00e8re blanche<\/strong>, offerte par Simon<\/strong> lors de notre visite \u00e0 Kulmbach<\/strong> que nous renouons nos contacts.<\/p>\n

We go straight to our friends Annette and Niels<\/strong> that we had met on our 2014 Antarctica expedition<\/strong>. They live in a charming typical Danish style house surrounded by a lovely garden full of flowers, vegetables and fruit trees.\u00a0<\/span>
\n We celebrate our get together with a delicious, <\/span>spicy pull appart roast prepared by Annette and one of the 5ltr cans of wheat beer from Simon <\/strong>(from our stop in Kulmbach).<\/span>

Le lendemain, c’est en leur compagnie\u00a0que nous visitons\u00a0leur \u00eele de Bornholm<\/strong> qu\u2019ils connaissent comme leur poche.<\/p>\n

The next day we start our visit guided by Annette and Niels who are both born here. In addition Neals is a teacher and knows all the important facts by heart!

Nous commen\u00e7ons par l\u2019une des 4 \u00e9glises rondes<\/strong>, typiques de cet endroit, datant du 18\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle.
\nFirst we visit the smallest of the 4 round Churches<\/strong> unique to the island. This one was build in the 18th century.
\n<\/span><\/span>
\n\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Nous montons ensuite vers la c\u00f4te Nord pr\u00e8s de Salene<\/strong> pour admirer les plus grandes falaises du Danemark.<\/p>\n

From here we go north to Salene<\/strong> to explore the highest cliffs of whole Denmark (remember, the rest of Denmark is only made of sand).<\/span>

En descendant au bord de la mer, nous acc\u00e9dons \u00e0 une faille qui s\u2019enfonce dans la falaise sur une cinquantaine de m\u00e8tres……<\/p>\n

We climb down to the sea and enter a narrow, 50m long cavern, where you can see spiders from the tarantula family! (Sylke is\u00a0a little claustrophobic and doesn’t likes spiders too much so\u00a0she does not make it to the far end…).

\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

…..et au fond de laquelle on peut y trouver des araign\u00e9es de la famille des tarentules <\/strong>mais beaucoup plus petites.<\/p>\n

C\u2019est en traversant une dense for\u00eat dont le sol est tapiss\u00e9 d’ail d’ours et de champignons…..<\/p>\n

…..que nous arrivons ensuite vers la plus grande cascade<\/strong> de Bornholm,<\/strong> 7 \u00e0 8 m\u00e8tres, un exploit pour ce pays plat\u00a0!<\/p>\n

Back up on the cliff we enter a dense forest where the ground is covered with millions of wild garlic<\/strong> flowers and the smell is unmistakable! From here we reach one of Denmark’s highest waterfalls (8m! Remarkable for this rather flat land😉).<\/span>

L\u2019endroit ayant la r\u00e9putation de faire les meilleures Soft Ice<\/strong> (glaces \u00e0 la cr\u00e8me) de l\u2019\u00eele se trouve dans le pittoresque village de Gudhjem<\/strong> sur la c\u00f4te nord.<\/p>\n

C\u2019est l\u00e0 que nous nous rendons pour d\u00e9guster ce d\u00e9lice tr\u00e8s convoit\u00e9 par les mouettes et go\u00e9lands du coin.<\/p>\n

After this active morning we are ready for a snack and decide to visit Gudhjem<\/strong> with the reputation for the island’s best ice cream<\/strong>.<\/span>

Nous montons sur un petit promontoire au dessus du port pour profiter de la vue sur la ville.<\/p>\n

We enjoy the\u00a0rather generous portions\u00a0with view to the little harbour.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lundi 5 juin
\n<\/strong> Petit d\u00e9jeuner chez nos amis apr\u00e8s quoi nous nous rendons en bord de mer juste \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de R<\/strong>\u00f8nne <\/strong>afin d\u2019assister \u00e0 une course \u00e0 pied de 5km<\/strong> \u00e0 laquelle participe Annette<\/strong>. 300 participants environ s\u2019alignent pour le d\u00e9part qui est donn\u00e9 toutes classes confondues. Le vainqueur terminera avec un excellent temps de 16 minutes et Annette qui manque un peu d\u2019entra\u00eenement effectuera le parcours en 24 minutes.<\/p>\n

Monday June 5th.
\n<\/strong>After a delicious breakfast at our friends house with homemade jam and breakfast “boller” we assist a 5k run<\/strong> where Annette<\/strong> is participating. Running is a popular sport on Bornholm and roughly 300 people participate. The winner runs it at an impressive 16min and Annette is half happy with her 24min since she knows she can run it much faster, but for the very little training she did it is an ok timing.
\n<\/span>
\n\"\"
\n<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s la course, nous longeons une tr\u00e8s jolie plage pour retourner \u00e0 l\u2019Azala\u00ef et nous nous rendons ensuite au d\u00e9part d\u2019une randonn\u00e9e qui se trouve \u00e0 l\u2019est de l\u2019\u00eele et qui porte le joli nom de \u00ab\u00a0Colline du Paradis\u00a0\u00bb.
\n<\/strong> Le long du parcours, une \u00ab\u00a0Roche\u00a0oscillante<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb m\u00e9rite que l\u2019on s\u2019y arr\u00eate. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une roche de 35 tonnes<\/strong>, mesurant 4 x 3 m\u00e8tres pour 2 m\u00e8tres de haut, d\u00e9pos\u00e9e l\u00e0 pendant l\u2019aire glaci\u00e8re et qui se trouve en \u00e9quilibre sur une pro\u00e9minence du sol, de telle mani\u00e8re que l\u2019on peut la faire bouger en lui imprimant des petites saccades.<\/p>\n

The afternoon is filled with a lovely hike in an area that is called “paradise hill”<\/strong>.<\/span>
\nThe path leads first to a rocking stone<\/strong>. The 35t heavy stone sits in a stable in-stable\u00a0 position and can thus be rocked by hand without making it fall over. It makes you feel really strong when you feel that you can really make this heavy stone move!<\/span><\/p>\n

Tout au long du chemin, nous d\u00e9couvrons de tr\u00e8s jolis endroits avec une alternance de jolis \u00e9tangs et de vall\u00e9es \u00e9troites bord\u00e9es de falaises.<\/p>\n

The hike continues pleasantly through woods, along lakes and open areas.<\/span>

Mardi 6 juin
\n<\/strong>\u00a0Ce matin, nous allons essayer de voir des bisons, introduits dans un grand parc en pr\u00e9vision d\u2019une extinction de la race sur le continent. Il serait alors possible de recr\u00e9er de nouveaux troupeaux en se servant des bisons de Bornholm.
\n<\/strong>17 bisons<\/strong> vivent ici.
\nApr\u00e8s 2 heures \u00e0 marcher \u00e0 travers for\u00eats et clairi\u00e8res, \u00e0 suivre des traces de sabots et de bouses fra\u00eeches, nous devons malheureusement nous rendre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9vidence que ce n\u2019est pas aujourd\u2019hui que nous verrons ces animaux.<\/p>\n

Tuesday June 6th.<\/strong><\/span>
\n We visit a Bison<\/strong> park and try to find the actual bisons during several hours. <\/span>
\n7 European Bison were introduced here a number of years ago and have by now turned into 17 the brochure tells us. Unfortunately below is all we see of them today…<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Niels et Annette<\/strong> nous ont parl\u00e9 d\u2019un tr\u00e8s joli caf\u00e9, cr\u00e9\u00e9 dans un ancien b\u00e2timent scolaire, pas tr\u00e8s loin d\u2019o\u00f9 nous nous trouvons. Nous y passons un tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9able moment dans un cadre tr\u00e8s cosy.<\/p>\n

Following our friend recommendation we go to “Fru Petersen’s coffee Hus”<\/strong>.<\/span>
\n An old schoolhouse that has furniture from 18hundred and serves homemade Danish cakes. Lovely place, fantastic cakes!<\/span>
\nAnd if you don’t want to chose, you take the “buffet” option so you can try them all<\/span> 😊

\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\u00a0 \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Nous allons maintenant retrouver Annette \u00e0 Svaneke<\/strong>, dans la boutique-verrerie dans laquelle elle travaille. Trois souffleuses de verre sont en pleine action et c\u2019est avec beaucoup d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat que nous assistons \u00e0 la naissance de jolis verres \u00e0 pied.<\/p>\n

From here we go and visit Annette in Svaneke<\/strong> in the Glas shop she works.<\/span>
\n Great plus the workshop is actually in the same room and\u00a0we can see the pieces been made!<\/span>
\nUnfortunately glas is not ideal for traveling 😟 but we still decide to buy a lovely apple shaped glas bowl which Anette packs in and oversized carton and we put it into a “safe” place inside the Azala\u00ef. Keep fingers crossed!<\/span>

Nous assistons aussi \u00e0 la fabrication d’une autre sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 de ce lieu, les caramels.<\/p>\n

We also watch (and taste \ud83d\ude42 ) sweets<\/strong> being made. Still impressive how crystal sugar can be turned into something so plastic!<\/span><\/p>\n

C\u2019est du c\u00f4t\u00e9 ouest de l\u2019ile que nous nous rendons ensuite, avec un arr\u00eat \u00e0 \u00d8sterlars<\/strong> pour y visiter la plus grande et la plus ancienne des 4 \u00e9glises circulaires de l\u2019\u00eele. Construite aux environ de 1150<\/strong>, alors que Bornholm<\/strong> vivait une p\u00e9riode perturb\u00e9e par un conflit entre le roi et l\u2019\u00e9v\u00eaque. L\u2019\u00e9glise, construite avec des murs de 2 m\u00e8tres <\/strong>d\u2019\u00e9paisseur servait autant de forteresse que de lieu saint.<\/p>\n

On our way over to the west coast we stop at \u00d8sterlars<\/strong> to see the biggest and oldest of the round churches<\/strong> from Bornholm. The fortified church was build around 1150 in times of conflict between the church and the Danish king. The exterior wall is more than 2m thick and the building served as fortress and church at the same time.<\/span>
\nThe church is also famous for its medieval chalk paintings.
\n<\/span>
\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Nous allons retrouver maintenant la c\u00f4te ouest de Bornholm\u00a0pour rejoindre le village de Hasle<\/strong>.
\nEn chemin,\u00a0un beau moulin nous force \u00e0 le fixer sur la pellicule.<\/p>\n

Hasle<\/strong>, cette cit\u00e9 de p\u00eacheurs offre la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019assister au fumage du hareng, pour autant que l\u2019on ne fasse pas trop la grasse matin\u00e9e. C\u2019est au programme pour demain matin. Nous trouvons un joli endroit, au nord de la ville, juste en bord de mer pour passer la nuit.<\/p>\n

Mercredi 7 juin
\n<\/strong>Comme pr\u00e9vu, la premi\u00e8re visite de ce matin est pour la visite le fumoir<\/strong> de hareng de Hasle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Wedbesday June 7th.
\n<\/strong> In the fishing town Hasle<\/strong> we watch traditional fish smoking<\/strong>.
\nWith the inventions of steam boats smoked herring grew into an important business for Bornholm over the first half of the last century. Many smoking chimneys<\/strong> can still be seen on the island but most of them are only used for local business now.<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

4 \u00e0 5 heures sont n\u00e9cessaires pour mener \u00e0 bien cette op\u00e9ration qui commence chaque jour \u00e0 6 heures du matin.<\/p>\n

The process takes 4 to 5 hours and the poor guy must look forward to a shower!

Provisions faites de poisson fum\u00e9, nous remontons la c\u00f4te vers le nord en direction de Vang.
\n<\/strong>Nous effectuons l\u00e0 un circuit randonn\u00e9e de 3 heures pendant lesquelles nous d\u00e9couvrons une ancienne carri\u00e8re de marbregranit et aussi une falaise dans laquelle nichent de nombreux go\u00e9lands.<\/p>\n

With our fridge loaded with various types of smoked fish we continue along the west coast direction north to Vang<\/strong> where we do a 3 hours coastal walk<\/strong> that also leads through a Granit quarry.<\/strong> The weather is great and the views are stunning.

Nous poursuivons par la visite de John\u2019s Kapel.<\/strong>
\nC\u2019est une grotte dans la falaise, accessible \u00e0 mar\u00e9e basse, dans laquelle v\u00e9cut pendant deux ans, un missionnaire pr\u00e9nomm\u00e9 John<\/strong>, charg\u00e9 de fid\u00e9liser les Bornholmois<\/strong> au christianisme.<\/p>\n

We continue to John Kapel<\/strong>, via uncountable (!!!!) steep wooden stairs. John is said to have preached from the top of this cliff to the fishermen gathered below, with the aim to convert them to Christianity.

\nLast beautiful hike<\/strong> on the island. This time around the northern tip of Bornholm<\/strong> named Hammerknude<\/strong> and on to Hammerhus<\/strong> the biggest castle ruin of northern Europe.

\n<\/a><\/p>\n

Cach\u00e9 dans son trou, il croyait passer inaper\u00e7u. Rat\u00e9!<\/p>\n

Le sentier passe \u00e9galement pr\u00e8s des 2 phares de l\u2019endroit.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Le ch\u00e2teau de Hammershus.
\n<\/strong>C’est l’un des plus importants monument historique du Danemark.<\/strong>
\nConstruit au d\u00e9but du 13\u00e8me si\u00e8cle<\/strong>, il domine la c\u00f4te du haut d’une falaise de 74 m\u00e8tres, ce qui lui donna la r\u00e9putation d’\u00eatre imprenable.
\nLes su\u00e9dois<\/strong> r\u00e9ussirent toutefois \u00e0 forcer les d\u00e9fenses en creusant un trou dans la muraille.
\nLe ch\u00e2teau a chang\u00e9 plusieurs fois de propri\u00e9taire et a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9finitivement abandonn\u00e9 en 1743.<\/p>\n

Hammerhus<\/strong>\u00a0castle<\/strong> is\u00a0one of Denmark’s most important historical monuments<\/strong>. Built in the early 13th century it lays isolated and majestic on a cliff of 74m above the sea. Due to its ideal location the castle was used for many years. Ownership of Hammerhus has changed several times from the Archbishop of Lund to the Hanseatic city of L\u00fcbeck and the king of Denmark. It was finally abandoned in 1743.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nNous quittons Annette et Niels,<\/strong> rejoignons le terminal du ferry et quittons Bornholm<\/strong> pour rallier Ystad<\/strong>, au sud de la Su\u00e8de<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We thoroughly enjoyed this first part of our travel. In particular due to friends and family which provided for each stop a wealth of local insights and a very warm welcome which made all the difference! Thank you all so much for this !<\/span><\/p>\n
